The high point of this week was the school variety show. I watched the students' ukulele orchestra, Polynesian dancing, numerous ballads belted out with passion, some fantastic dance troupes and a wicked barbershop quartet. Best of all, I saw one of my students write and perform one of her own songs. That makes all the long hours worthwhile! It's when students do well in their own projects that I feel the most satisfaction as a teacher--that's real application of knowledge; that's real life! And to top it off I sang 'I saw her standing there' with the staff band. Yes, I worked two 13 hour days this week, but I also got to watch some great performances at work and had a good laugh and belted out a number with my colleagues. This weekend I'm now working through the marking . . .
